Stuck in a Mental Fog?

It’s pretty common this time of year.  You’re staring at your screen, trying to focus, but nothing’s landing.  It’s like your brain just won’t switch on.

By November, many of us are running on low batteries. We’re mentally, physically, and  emotionally exhausted.

The mistake we often make is trying to think our way out of that fog: more coffee, more to-do lists, more forcing ourselves to focus.

But often, it’s not your brain that’s tired, it’s your body that’s stuck.

When you’ve been sitting a lot, training in the same way, or moving in limited patterns, your nervous system starts to tune out.

You get good at doing what’s familiar, but not great at adapting or creating.

Your body and brain are in the same loop, the same posture, the same movements, the same ideas.

Here’s the interesting bit: when you change how you move, you change how you think.

Moving in new ways sends fresh signals to your brain, wakes up underused muscles, and gives your nervous system new information.

That’s often when ideas start flowing again, focus returns, and you feel more switched on.

So if you’re feeling a bit flat or foggy right now, try this:

  • Change your base. If you always sit, try standing or even kneeling while you work for a few minutes. New posture = new brain input.
  • Move with curiosity. Instead of pushing harder in your usual workout, try something slower or more exploratory. Feel what’s tight, what’s moving freely.
  • Go outside. A walk, even ten minutes, changes your breathing and gives your senses more to play with — both of which help your brain reconnect.

Often, the spark you’re looking for doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from moving differently.

As we head into the end of the year, you don’t need another productivity hack.

You need recovery, space, and movement that brings energy back into your body and clarity into your mind.

My Movement Freedom Series takes you through simple, bodyweight movements designed to improve range and ease — especially through your trunk, hips, and feet so you can move (and think) with more freedom.

It’s a great way to shake off the end-of-year fatigue, loosen up, and feel re-energised heading into summer.

Give yourself a few minutes to move differently today. You might be surprised how quickly your energy and clarity return.
