Easing Back Into Work

January always has that odd feeling to it. Part holiday mode, part “right, better get on with things.” If you’re heading back to work this week, you might have noticed your routine feels a bit slippery. The days get fuller, the emails start rolling in, and before you know it the things that made your body feel good over the break start sliding to the edges.

This is usually the point where people decide they “just need to be more disciplined.” But in reality, your brain responds far better to small, predictable rhythms than big declarations of willpower. If you’ve been out of your usual routine, the goal isn’t to snap straight back into peak performance. It’s to rebuild a flow that actually fits your life as it is right now.

A helpful place to start is simply noticing what your body is trying to tell you as you settle back into work. Are you stiff after longer desk hours? Does your back feel grumpy after the commute? Are you reaching for the afternoon coffee because you’re tired or because you haven’t moved enough?

Your brain listens to all of this. A few minutes of intentional movement sprinkled through your day can change your energy, your focus, and the way you feel in your body. And it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Try:
• A couple of gentle spine rotations before your first meeting.
• A hip shift or ankle roll every time you stand up from your chair.
• One moment each morning where you ask yourself, “Feel anything different today?” and give your body a small nudge toward ease.

These tiny resets help re-establish your routine without relying on motivation. Once those are in place, your bigger habits become much easier to return to.

If you’re noticing your body asking for a bit more attention right now, and you’d prefer some one-on-one help to get things moving smoothly again, just let me know and we can talk through your options.

Alternatively, the Movement Freedom Masterclass Series is a simple, do-it-yourself way to get your body feeling steady, strong, and mobile again. Each short video focuses on one key area (trunk and shoulders, hips, and feet/ankles) so you can restore the movements that make everyday life feel easier.
