Relax and Re-Energise at Home

It seems that right now, things are especially tough and with winter upon us, it can feel overwhelming and stressful.  We’d all like to escape and go somewhere warm and sunny, but if that’s not an option, finding simple cost-effective ways to relax and unwind at home is more important than ever.

A little self-care can go a long way, especially for busy people juggling numerous responsibilities. The good news is that you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy a spa-like experience at home.

Here’s some ideas to help you relax and rejuvenate.

DIY Aromatherapy

Essential Oils: A few drops in a diffuser or even just in a bowl of hot water or on a cloth to inhale can help calm and relax. Lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint are great options.

Herbal Sachets: Create sachets with dried herbs and flowers, such as lavender, chamomile, or rosemary, and place them around your house or in your bath for a calming effect.

All skin types: ½ avocado mashed with 2 tablespoons of honey (leave on for 20min+)

Dry skin: 1 banana mashed with 1 tablespoon of honey (leave on for 10-15min)

Combination/oily skin: 1 tablespoon of honey with ½ teaspoon each of cinnamon and nutmeg (leave on for 20min)

Epsom Salt Bath

Relaxing Bath: Add Epsom salts to your bath to soothe sore muscles and relax. Enhance the experience with a few drops of your favourite essential oil.

DIY Exfoliation

Sugar Scrub: Mix sugar with olive oil or coconut oil to create a natural body scrub. Use it in the shower to exfoliate and moisturize your skin. Add you’re a few drops of your favourite essential oil.

Coffee Grounds Scrub: Used coffee grounds mixed with a bit of olive oil can make an invigorating and exfoliating scrub.

Steam Facial

Herbal Steam: Boil water and pour it into a bowl, then add herbs like chamomile or rosemary. Place a towel over your head to create a tent and lean over the bowl to steam your face for a few minutes.

Relaxing Music and Meditation

Free Apps: Use free meditation apps like Insight Timer or YouTube for guided meditations and relaxing music.

Online Classes: Use free online yoga classes or stretching routines to help relax your body and mind.

Routine Mobilisers: Focus on simple movements for areas of tension, such as the neck, shoulders, and back.

Nature Walks and Grounding

Barefoot Walks: Walk barefoot on the grass, sand or soil to practice grounding and connect with nature.

Mindful Walks: Take a walk in a park or your neighborhood, paying close attention to the sights, sounds, and smells around you.

Hydration and Herbal Teas

Infused Water: Add slices of cucumber, lemon, or mint to water for a refreshing and hydrating drink.
