Feel Better with Less Effort

You’re exercising regularly so why does getting up off the floor still feel awkward, or your hips don’t want to twist the way they used to?

Maybe it’s not just about how much you move in a workout—it’s about how much you move through the day.

We’re taught to focus on exercise as the big event, your class, your run, your gym session, but what about the other hours of the day when you’re not doing that?

Our bodies are designed to move often, not just intensely. And when we sit for long periods, even if we hit the gym before or after, it can start to limit our natural range of motion. You might not notice it at first, but over time, it shows up as tight shoulders, cranky knees, and that subtle feeling of being “stuck.”

If you’re not moving often, or accessing certain movements, your brain decides those movements are ‘low priority’.  It’s a case of ‘use it or lose it’.  Before you know it, certain twists, reaches or bends feel so much harder than they should.

But hang on, before you go adding more workouts to your busy week, think instead about adding in some micro-movements through your day – tiny, natural, everyday movements.

Shift your weight while brushing your teeth. Roll your shoulders while waiting for the kettle to boil. Do a few squats while the dog eats dinner. Smarter movements, not harder movements.

These micro-movements hydrate your joints, support your nervous system, and keep your brain wired for fluid movement. Over time, it adds up to less restriction and more ease.

So if you’re already exercising but still feeling restricted, try adding a few movement snacks into your day.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just a few gentle nudges to remind your body: “Hey, we’re still using this.”
